HOLY WEEK 2021
We are grateful to Almighty God that we can gather for Holy
Week Liturgies this year. A reminder that, due to space limitations, free
tickets are needed for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter

No Adoration this week
Please drop your donations in the baskets as you enter church - thank you!!!
All Liturgies in Church – you
must enter using the front doors.
Palm Sunday – Palms will be
available in the narthex as you enter church. They will be handed out by the
ushers/greeters using gloves. They will be already blessed.
Reconciliation Monday Confessions
from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm - Father Michael and Father Connolly will be
available in the confessionals. Bishop Colacicco will be assisting us from 3:00
– 5:00 pm. No ‘’face to face.” Please keep a 6-foot distance online.
Holy Tuesday Mass of the Chrism at St. Patrick’s
Cathedral – It will not be open to the public this year. Instead,
priests, deacons and seminarians will be seated throughout the Cathedral. The
Holy Oils will be blessed by Cardinal Dolan and we will bring them home to St.
Columba.
Holy Thursday Tenebrae at St. Denis 9:00 am
Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00
pm–
The Washing of the Feet will be omitted. At the end of Mass, we will process to
the school gym keeping socially distant. The Repository will be set up on the
stage. Please spread out throughout the gym and cafeteria.
Good Friday Tenebrae at St. Columba at 9:00 am
Good Friday Liturgy of the Lord’s
Passion at 3:00 pm – An eleventh petition will be added praying for the end
of the pandemic. For the Veneration of the Holy Cross (three lines) there will
be no physical contact. Please venerate with a bow or genuflection only.
Good Friday Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm – We will
conclude with Veneration of the Cross. There will be no physical contact.
Please venerate with a bow or genuflection only.
Holy Saturday Tenebrae at St. Kateri at 9:00 am
Blessing of Easter Food at 10:30pm – Place your
food to be blessed on the sanctuary steps. Please keep social distance,
especially as you pick up your food.
Holy Saturday Easter Vigil at 7:30 pm – The
gathering of people at the Easter Fire will be limited to the priests and deacons,
together with the elect and their godparents. Everyone else will remain in the pews.
Small candles will not be used. All will be blessed with Holy Water and the Holy
Water fonts will remain empty.

Easter Monday April 5 - Morning
Mass on Monday, April 5 will be at 8:00 am. The Parish Office will be closed
and there will be No Adoration. Volunteers are welcome at 9:00 am in the school
to help us break down and set up the school for Tuesday.
Easter Tuesday April 6 - Thank
you to all who sent in Evaluations for Father Michael as he concludes his first
6-year term as Pastor of St. Columba. He will meet with the Evaluation Team
today at 1:30 pm.
Confirmation make-up (due to quarantines) with Bishop
Colacicco at 5:00 pm. No Adoration due to Confirmations.

MOTHER
GLORIA’s OBITUARY
Rev.
Mother Gloria Castro, OBT, 96, died peacefully on March 21, 2021 at her home at
St. Aloysius Novitiate, surrounded by her loving sisters. She dedicated herself
to religious life for more than 75 years, as well as to the Catholic education
of children.
Born
in El Salvador, she was the daughter of Tacio and Maria Silvia Castro. Mother
Gloria studied at the Normal School for Teachers in San Salvador. She received
a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Fordham University and a Masters in
School Administration from Columbia University.
In
1944, she entered the Congregation of Sisters Oblates to Divine Love in El
Salvador. Four years later, she immigrated to the United States and was
instrumental in opening the first parish school at St. Clare of Assisi Parish
in the Bronx in 1951where she served as the firs principal for 16 years and as
a math teacher for more than 20 years.
In
1960, Mother Gloria assisted in the acquisition of a property in Hopewell
Junction that became St. Aloysius Novitiate. It is here where the future
religious Sisters of the Order are formed. In 1972, the Sisters started an
early childhood program: St. Aloysius Happy House Learning Center, which
expanded to include nursery, pre-k, and kindergarten classes throughout the
years. Mother Gloria served as the second principal of St. Aloysius Happy House
for 28 years.
In
1966, Mother Gloria became the Provincial Superior of the Sacred Heart
Province. She was elected as the Vicar General in 1969 and in 1975 became the
Superior General. During this time, Mother Gloria lived in Via Marruvio in
Rome. She returned to the United States in 1981 and continued her work at St.
Clare School.
Under
Mother Gloria’s guidance, the Oblates to the Blessed Trinity were formed in
1987 in the Archdiocese of New York. In addition to St. Aloysius Novitiate,
they also have Blessed Trinity Convent in the Bronx. Mother Gloria spent her
“retirement” years at St. Aloysius where her untiring spirit, sustained by her
deep spirituality and belief in God, continued to make her an example of true
dedication in the service of the Church as an Oblate to the Blessed Trinity.
Calling
hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895
Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on
Monday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction
followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.

be required. Since capacity may be limited, all attendees should be prepared
for potential extended waiting periods.
