Holy Thursday 2020 at St. Columba, Hopewell Junction

Hello friends,

We gather again virtually to celebrate Holy Week. Thursday April 9th, is Holy Thursday, which commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus had His last meal with His followers before He died on the Cross. At this meal, He Instituted the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood.

This day is also referred to as Maundy Thursday. Maundy comes from the Latin word "mandatum" which means "mandate" or "command." "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." - John 13:34.

At the end of the meal, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples as a sign and example of humility and love. In modern times, the foot-washing ceremony is an important call for all people that they too should be willing to serve others. "Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." - John 13:16-17

Although we can't actually wash feet this year, we must do so in other ways, especially by our care and concern for one another!
