Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Music
Entrance:
1. My life flows on in endless
song.
Above
earth's lamentation
I
hear the clear though far-off hymn
That
hails a new creation.
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
While to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?
3. What
though my joys and comfort die?
The
Lord, my savior liveth.
What
though the darkness gather round?
Songs
in the night he giveth.
Text: Robert Lowry, 1826-1899
Psalm Response: “I turn to you, O Lord, in time
of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.”
Presentation:
Eye has not seen, ear has not heard
what God has ready for those who love him;
Spirit of love, come, give us the mind of
Jesus,
teach us the wisdom of God.
1. When
pain and sorrow weigh us down, be near to us, O Lord,
forgive
the weakness of our faith, and bear us up within your peaceful word.
2. Our
lives are but a single breath, we flower and we fade,
yet
all our days are in your hands, so we return in love what love has made.
3. To
those who see with eyes of faith, the Lord is ever near,
reflected
in the faces of all the poor and lowly of the world.
4. We
sing a myst'ry from the past in halls where saints have trod,
yet
ever new the music rings to Jesus, Living Song of God.
Text: 1 Corinthians 2:9-10; Marty Haugen,
b.1950, 1982, GIA Publications, Inc.
Communion Refrain: (Missalette hymn # 265)
Make of our hands a throne to hold the Bread of heaven.
Make of our hearts a home to hold the very wine
of life.
In this myst’ry, Lord, make us one with you.
Recessional:
1. Alleluia!
Sing to Jesus!
His
the scepter, his the throne.
Alleluia!
His the triumph,
His
the victory alone.
Hark!
The songs of peaceful Zion
Thunder
like a mighty flood:
"Jesus
out of ev'ry nation
Has
redeemed us by his blood."
2. Alleluia!
Bread of angels,
Here
on earth our food, our stay!
Alleluia!
Here the sinful
Flee
to you from day to day.
Intercessor,
friend of sinners,
Earth's
redeemer, plead for me,
Where
the songs of all the sinless
Sweep
across the crystal sea.

PRESIDENT’S DAY –

Monday is President’s
Day. Morning Mass is at 8:00 am. The Parish Office will be closed. There will
be No Adoration.
PRAYER REQUEST
Father Joseph Bisignano
is a former Parochial Vicar at St. Columba. He is in critical condition with
COVID. Please pray for him.
THE CARDINAL’S APPEAL 2021
HAS BEGUN
It is in the spirit of
conversion, charity, and love of neighbor, that we appeal to you once again for
your generosity in contributing to the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal –
2021.
Some may have already received a letter from Cardinal Dolan
explaining the appeal. But allow us to
briefly explain the goals of the fund.
Where will the money
go?
(1) To
support financially stricken parishes, many of which are struggling to service
the faithful
(2) To
support feeding programs and other essential human services
(3) To
support our Catholic schools and various faith formation activities
(4) To
contribute to the education of new parish priests
(5) To
care for our retired priests who continue to pray and make sacrifices for us.
(6) And,
as we learned from 2020, to set aside funds to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.
The total goal of the Archdiocese for this year is $21
million. Our parish goal is 97,000. Each family will be given the opportunity to
make a one-time gift or commit to a monthly pledge. You can make your donations online through www.cardinalsappeal.org. Make sure to
note Parish #392 – St. Columba HJ.
We understand that your situation may have changed,
especially due to COVID and we invite you to prayerfully consider a
contribution and participate in this year’s appeal as you are able. For those of you who will participate for
the first time, and for those of you who have been participating in our online
Masses, thank you very much for your effort and commitment to remain connected
with the parish. Your participation is
vital to the success of the Cardinal’s Appeal.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. We
know that with God’s grace, all things are possible and with Him, we can
achieve all things.
PARISH AND PASTOR EVALUATION
This year Father Michael McLoughlin will be completing his
first six-year term as Pastor of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. In
keeping with Archdiocesan policy, an evaluation of the parish has begun.
Parishioners and staff who wish to do so may write letters with their own comments
about our parish and the pastoral leadership of the parish. Please
address your letters to:
The Office of Priest Personnel
Archdiocese of New York
1011 First Avenue
New York, New York 10022
Letters should be received no later than February 28, 2021.
Any correspondence received after the deadline
will NOT be included in the evaluation process.
ASH WEDNESDAY IS

Due to the pandemic our
services will be brief. Thus, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL COME ON TIME. When
the Service ends, the priest/deacons will not remain waiting at the altar for
his safety and yours. The prayer will be said once for everyone. Then all will
be invited to come forward to receive the Blessed Ashes on your forehead.
Masses at 7:00 am and
12:00 noon
Services at 10:30 am,
1:30 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm.
LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE
During the season of Lent, the
Church urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily lives
through performing acts of fast and abstinence.
+Lent begins on Ash Wednesday,
February 17 and ends on Holy Thursday, April 1.
+Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
are days of fast and abstinence. This is a serious matter within Church law.
+Fasting means only one full
meal a day may be taken. Two smaller meals can be eaten to maintain physical
strength but together they should not equal another full meal in quantity.
Snacking between meals is not permitted. Catholics ages 18-59 are obliged to
fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are not specifically obliged
to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that
they are able. 2
+Abstinence forbids the eating
of meat or poultry. Those who have reached the age of 14 or older are obliged
to abstain on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent. Those who are not
specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are urged to join in the
discipline of abstaining to the extent that they are able.
+All Fridays of the year are
designated as days of penance during which we are encouraged to practice
self-denial out of gratitude for the suffering and death Jesus accepted for us.
+The time for fulfilling the
Easter Duty extends from the First Sunday of Lent (February 21) to Holy Trinity
Sunday (May 30).
