Statement
of the U.S. Bishops regarding the Violence on Capitol Hill
Archbishop
José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB), issued the following statement in response to today’s violence
in the United States Capitol:
“I join people of good will in
condemning the violence today at the United States Capitol. This is not who we
are as Americans. I am praying for members of Congress and Capitol staff and
for the police and all those working to restore order and public safety.
“The peaceful transition of
power is one of the hallmarks of this great nation. In this troubling moment,
we must recommit ourselves to the values and principles of our democracy and
come together as one nation under God. I entrust all of us to the heart of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. May she guide us in the ways of peace and obtain for us
wisdom and the grace of a true patriotism and love of country.”
Music for the Baptism of the Lord January 10,
2021
Entrance
Hail to the Lord’s Anointed, Great David’s
greater Son!
Hail, in the time appointed, God's reign on
earth begun!
Christ comes to break oppression, To set the
captive free;
To take away transgression, And rule in equity.
Great kings shall bow before him, And gold and
incense bring;
All nations shall adore him, In praise all
people sing;
Our prayer shall be unceasing, With daily vows
ascend;
The kingdom still increasing, A kingdom without
end.
Presentation
1. On
Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
Announces
that the Lord is nigh;
Awake
and hearken, for he brings
Glad
tidings of the King of kings.
2. Then
cleansed be ev'ry heart from sin;
Make
straight the way of God within,
And
let each heart prepare a home
Where
such a mighty guest may come.
3. For
you are our salvation, Lord,
Our
refuge, and our great reward;
Without
your grace we waste away
Like
flow'rs that wither and decay.
4. To
heal the sick stretch out your hand,
And
bid the fallen sinner stand;
Shine
forth, and let your light restore
Earth's
own true loveliness once more.
5. All
praise to You, eternal Son,
Whose
advent has our freedom won;
Whom
with the Father we adore,
And
Holy Spirit, evermore.

Coffin, 1676-1749; tr. by John Chandler, 1806-1876, alt.

In

1. Joy
to the world! the Lord is come:
Let
earth receive her King;
Let
ev'ry heart prepare him room,
And
heav'n and nature sing,
And
heav'n and nature sing,
And
heav'n, and heav'n and nature sing.
4. He
rules the world with truth and grace,
And
makes the nations prove
The
